Because all-solid-state batteries, in contrast to lithium-ion batteries, use solid-state electrolytes instead of liquid ones, the risk of ignition and explosion is greatly diminished. Thus, it can be called the real safe secondary batteries.
In addition, the degree of freedom in design of all-solid-state battery is high. Meanwhile, it could have higher power and energy density and can be easily used in electric vehicles. Owing to the high levels of safety and absence of liquid electrolytes, the battery can be handled easily in the production process, Thus, the productivity is much higher than that in the case of lithium ion batteries. We are working on research and development, as well as utilization of the next-generation all-solid-state batteries.

About lithium ion conductive polymer electrolytes

Since a flammable organic solvent is used generally in the electrolyte of existing lithium-ion secondary batteries, there are life-critical concerns about its safety. Therefore, a high degree of safety is to be expected by substituting the electrolyte with a flame-retardant lithium-ion conductive solid polymer electrolyte. We have developed various such polymer electrolytes for the all-solid-state batteries.
